PPS Number


You need a PPS number to work in Ireland.

Your PPS No. is your Personal Public Service Number

It is unique to you.

It is used for use in any transactions you may have with public bodies or persons authorised by those bodies to act on their behalf.

You need it for tax. You need it to work. You need it to be paid by your emaployer.

If you are out of work you need it to claim welfare.

Only your local social welfare office can provide you with a PPS Number. In order to receive a PPS number, you will need to fill out an application form and provide proof of your identity.

If you are not Irish, you will need to produce the following documents to get your PPS number:
  • Your passport or national identity card
Or
  • Your Immigration Card
And
  • Evidence of your address, such as a household bill (ESB, telephone, gas, etc.) in your name.
